Hispanics put their stamp on US history
Article Abstract:
The 400th anniversary of the first Spanish settlement in the US is being marked in a number of different ways. These include the launch of a commemorative postage stamp. The stamp was unveiled in Espanola, NM, the modern-day town closest to the encampment of San Gabriel del Yunque, where Don Juan Onate brought his 80 settlers from Mexico, which was then a Spanish colony. Americans classifying themselves as Hispanics account for 11% of the US population. By 2010, they will have become the second most numerous racial group.

America, land of the large
Article Abstract:
There are a number of differences between US and French culture. Bigness is celebrated in the US, whilst being small is considered a virtue in France. It is more difficult to buy small packs of food in the US, and much of it is wasted. Price is important in the US, while the relationship between quality and price is important in France. People keep to the right on sidewalks in France, and bump into each other in the US. Innovation with food is important in the US but traditions are important in French cooking.

Keeping the Huguenot tradition alive
Article Abstract:
Protestants are still in a minority in France, but they are constantly growing in number. Many attend a meeting held on the first Sunday in September every year near the central southern town of St Jean du Gard. This allows them to develop a strong sense of unity and to assess the ways in which they differ from French Catholics. Some are direct descendents of the Huguenots, and still recall when Protestants were victimised.
