History grows: prune with care
Article Abstract:
The National Trust now owns 162 gardens, which together cover almost 400 years of garden making. They all attract many visitors, but the most popular are Studley Royal in north Yorkshire and Stourhead in Wiltshire. It has taken a long time for the National Trust to develop a policy for gardens, as it has been hard to decide whether they should be managed to attract the maximum number of visitors or to return them to their original condition. Some observers have criticised it for trying to rewrite history, while others believe that the original atmosphere of the gardens has been destroyed.

Article Abstract:
Ecuador is very rich in plant and animal life, with many species which are not seen elsewhere. Its orchids attract many visitors from abroad, especially in late summer, but plants such as agaves, eucalyptus and verbenas also flourish there. Those who are responsible for cultivated gardens adopt many advanced techniques to ensure that water is used to maximum effect.
