Holding on for dear life
Article Abstract:
Dealing with a serious climbing accident can be an extremely frightening experience, according to climber Simon Yates. His worst incident came in Jun 1985, when he was climbing with Joe Simpson in Peru. Simpson fell in difficult conditions and broke his leg, and Yates had to take responsibility for getting both of them down the mountain. He felt very tempted to abandon Simpson, and eventually was forced to. He was convinced that Simpson had perished, and felt very guilty. Simpson in fact survived, and accepted that Yates had taken the only possible course of action.

Article Abstract:
Photographer Fernando Pereira was killed in a bomb attack by the French secret service on the Greenpeace vessel 'Rainbow Warrier' in Jul 1985. The circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear, and his daughter, Marelle, has now embarked on a campaign to discover the truth. Investigations made so far have left her with a strong sense of injustice, especially as French authorities have been very unwilling to discuss the matter with her.

Resentment simmers beneath turf
Article Abstract:
The recent trial of groom William 'Clem' O'Brien for the murder of trainer Alex Scott highlights the tensions which exist in the world of horseracing. This world has an almost archaic class structure and unique economic and social conditions. There is a very strong hierarchy, and this can breed resentment. The leading figures are often greatly disliked by those who know that they have no hope of making progress.
