Hollywood cold be a role model for industry
Article Abstract:
There is a strong trend towards concentration in many industries, with the largest players joining together to create vast enterprises which compete with only a very small number of others. At the same time, however, there is also considerable emphasis on downsizing. Some observers believe that a situation is emerging where companies which can create a global monopoly will do so, while all other companies must reduce costs in order to remain in business. Developments such as the rise in the scale of risk are having a significant impact on the optimal size of companies.

Nigeria fuels prospect of a sharp fall in oil price
Article Abstract:
International condemnation of Nigeria comes at a time of great tension in the oil market, with the possibility of a sharp fall in prices. Against this background, it is worth considering the impact of possible sanctions against Nigeria on its oil exports. An oil embargo against Nigeria would underpin the oil price, but in the short-term Nigeria could be prompted to over-produce, thus creating further oversupply on the world market. Developments in Nigeria will probably make a fall in oil prices more likely.

People behaving badly (and well)
Article Abstract:
Many British people blame the apparent decline in moral standards over recent decades on the government, and the reestablishment of morality has become a key political issue. This overlooks the fact that trust and morality must be built up from the very foundations of society, and cannot be imposed from above. There is certainly a need to recreate a strong sense of community, but this cannot be done by a government. Indeed, a strong central government tends to make people more selfish, rather than less.
