Article Abstract:
It is very difficult for black intellectuals to put their views across in reasonable terms, according to Patricia Williams, professor of law at Columbia University and the 1997 Reith lecturer. She has already been criticised by some parts of the British media, and feels that black women in particular are treated extremely badly. She central theme of her talks - that many influential white people are unwilling to accept that race is a serious issue - has served to ensure that she attracts more criticism.
