Hoping Bruce is still Boss
Article Abstract:
Bruce Springsteen released two albums on Friday 27 March 1992 after a break of five years. Record retailers hope this will improve trade. The industry believes releases by artists of Springsteen's stature attract customers to buy other records as well. Virgin, HMV and Our Price make co-operative deals where record company advertising campaigns also promote the retailer. Little advertising of 'Lucky Town' and 'Human Touch' has appeared as Springsteen's fans will hear the news and buy the records anyway. A two year programme of tours and singles will back up the release.

Article Abstract:
It has now become widely accepted that efforts should be made to place a value on a company's brands, rather than just its physical assets. However, valuing brands creates a number of significant difficulties. Indeed, the UK Accounting Standards Board has acknowledged that inconsistencies may arise if acquired brands are recognized and home-grown ones are not, for example. Brand valuation needs to involve marketing staff and chief executives, rather than just finance directors and accountants.

The great reformers: still quietly beavering away
Article Abstract:
The Law Commission, which recommends changes to the UK's laws, has always attracted some controversy. However, most observers recognise its key role as an independent body which has cross-party support. It has five commissioners working full time, with the commission operating on a two-tier system to review legislation. Its influence has grown following changes in the procedure by which Law Commission law reform Bills become Acts.
