How Mrs Potts won some justice
Article Abstract:
Mrs Kay Potts, 43, has written over 1,000 letters of protest about police inaction and the release of criminals on bail since her daughter Anna was raped and murdered on Aug 18, 1991. Andrew Hagans, 28, the killer, was in a bail hostel after release from custody for rape 24 days earlier. Mrs Potts felt her daughter's death could have been avoided if Hagans had been dealt with differently by the police. MP (Member of Parliament) for Shoreham Michael Stephen is bringing a private member's Bill to change the bail law to keep the accused person in custody until the appeal is heard.

Reduce speed - red-light district
Article Abstract:
Police vice squad officers in Birmingham, England, know most of the prostitutes, known as Brasses, in Balsall Heath, Birmingham, where 152 were prosecuted in 1992. Most are street girls, but some sit in windows, dressed in sexy underwear. This is unique in Britain, although usual in Amsterdam, Holland. Local residents complain, mainly about traffic jams, as drivers come from miles away just to look. The vice squad's policy is to contain prostitution by harrassing the girls or the clients.
