Hairdressing is a very good outlet for someone with creative talents, according to top hairdresser Nicky Clarke. He lived in difficult circumstances as a child, but his family was very academic and he was able to benefit from a number of important opportunities. He became a hairdresser in the 1960s, working first in the very fashionable Leonard's salon, and soon gained a strong reputation of his own. He now has many famous people on his client list, and is booked up for months in advance.

Good hairdressers have technical and creative skills, but are also able to communicate effectively, according to hairdresser Nicky Clarke. He emphasizes that the art of consultation is extremely important. He does not feel that he has to justify his high prices, as there is very strong demand for his services. He feels that hairdressing is generally underpriced, given that a considerable amount of training is involved.

Hairdresser Nicky Clarke first gained real hairdressing experience through working with top stylist John Frieda. He practised a great deal, and was able to open his own salon in 1990. He has attracted many extremely wealthy women, and has gained a reputation for being able to create a hairstyle which looks naturally perfect. His main concern is to make hair that is flattering to women.
