How liberal is new Labour?
Article Abstract:
The new-style Labour party in the UK has successfully adopted areas which have traditionally been associated with Conservatism, promoting itself as the party of decency, discipline and law and order. However, some observers point out that it actually has no firm policies on these issues. It has certainly distanced itself from its radical, confrontational past, but it is unclear whether it has abandoned its traditional role as the promoter of liberal progressive values too.

Labour promises a new Camelot
Article Abstract:
The election manifesto of the UK Labour party uses a lot of language which has traditionally been associated with Christian morality. Party leader Tony Blair has not promises anything new, but the manifesto's emphasis on social justice is very convincing. The Labour party seems very optimistic, and this mood is likely to appeal to voters. However, there will inevitably be conflict between individual party members if it wins the forthcoming general election.

Silence of Britain's political lambs
Article Abstract:
The UK Labour and Conservative parties are both increasingly unwilling to debate matters of real importance, especially in the run-up to their annual conferences. The Labour party is not acting as a forceful opposition, while the Conservatives are focusing on trivial issues. Any politician who dares to mention a sensitive issue, such as the abolition of the monarchy or the disestablishment of the Church of England, is immediately sidelined.
