How safe is your job?
Article Abstract:
Corporate downsizing has received extensive media coverage, and many people feel that job insecurity is a growing problem. However, there is fact very little evidence to prove that middle-class workers in the UK or the US are more likely to lose their jobs than they were in earlier decades. In the UK, there has been very little change over the last decade in the length of time an average person spends in a job, and the proportion of people leaving their jobs each year has increased only slightly.

Regulators should beware when the cap doesn't fit
Article Abstract:
The regulation of the UK's utilities has for some time been a very controversial subject. Regulators have certainly not been strict enough with the utilities since privatisation, and this has caused an outcry from politicians and the public. However, being too strict will endanger the future safety of key industries. Political pressure means that regulators must constantly ensure that utilities are not making very high profits, but this may store up problems for the future.
