Article Abstract:
Schumacher College opened in January 1991 as the first higher education institution devoted to green issues. Three hundred students from 45 countries have enrolled at fees of 240 pounds sterling a week including board and lodging. Bursaries are available for Third World and eastern European students. The college contributes to the age of ecology as a community or retreat experimenting in ecological living.

Article Abstract:
Urban air quality in the UK is deteriorating, and poor air quality has now become part of everyday life in London and other cities. Most air pollution is caused by exhaust fumes, and the problem will therefore get worse as traffic levels rise. It is now thought that 10,000 a year in the UK die as a result of particulate pollution.
