How they make milk bottles dance
Article Abstract:
Silicon Graphics produces computer equipment that gives very realistic graphics, and their technology has been used in films like Terminator 2 and the Dairy Council's television advertisement featuring dancing milk bottles. Out of the 69 short films nominated in the 1992 Computer Animation Awards, 50 were produced by this company which was set up in 1981. Its first main achievement was the production of the Iris Graphics Library of 440 routines. The first Iris systems involved using 50,000 pounds sterling supercomputers as the amount of data to process in moving three-dimensional pictures is enormous. The current systems are now priced at around 10,000 pounds sterling.
