Hymn to a village way of life
Article Abstract:
There are still parts of London, England, which can be regarded as urban villages. They have a strong ethnic mix, and local people tend to know each other quite well. These urban villages generally meet most of the everyday needs of their residents. Experts point out that urban villages still exist because London emerged out of villages, rather than being deliberately planned, as in the case of cities in the US. London's urban villages do not have the upmarket atmosphere of some parts of the city, such as Highgate and Hampstead.

On the waterfront
Article Abstract:
People who live close to the river Thames in London, England, are aware that roads bordering the river can be subject to tidal flooding. It can sometimes happen that they are unable to get to their home because their road is flooded. However, they feel that living close to the river has considerable advantages. There is always a lot to view on the river, and they almost feel that they are living in the countryside, even though they are actually close to central London.

Location? Or dislocation?
Article Abstract:
Location is clearly a very important factor when deciding which house to buy. However, other factors, such as the social life in the area, may be important too. Some people may need a house in an isolated rural area at a particular stage in their life, but may subsequently decide to move into a more urban environment. It may be necessary to work extremely hard to find the ideal home in the best location.
