Concorde refit is last hurrah of unfulfilled aviation dream
Article Abstract:
The supersonic Concorde cost about 1.1 billion pounds sterling to develop, at the expense of other projects, but did not lead to an age of supersonic air travel. It first flew commercially in Jan 1976 and is expected to last until the early years of the next century. Objections to its noise caused foreign buyers to withdraw and Air France and British Airways (BA) were the only users. The Atlantic was the only financially viable route. In 1993 six BA aircraft fly 34 flights a week and one other does charters. The interior is being modernised and re-fitted with less ostentatious luxury.

An unfulfilled people clings to its idol
Article Abstract:
The many ordinary Britons who are mourning the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, are not experiencing true grief. However, it is certainly the case that an extreme reaction is taking place. Her death was violent and completely unexpected, and this has produced additional trauma. Nevertheless, it is inappropriate for ordinary people to be stating that they feel as if they have lost a close relative or friend. It seems that many people felt emotionally attached to Diana, Princess of Wales, even though this was a one-way relationship.

How safe is your plane?
Article Abstract:
There are now growing concerns about the safety of the world's aircraft fleet following a number of serious incidents over recent years. Most recently, the Federal Aviation Authority has ordered that all 2,000 Boeing 737s in the world fleet should have tests on their rudders. Technical defects are particularly serious, as they prompt questions about the future of the airline industry as a whole.
