Home care for old could be cure for NHS winter blues
Article Abstract:
Providing additional funding for the UK National Health Service (NHS) to help it deal with an influx of elderly patients each winter is not the best approach to caring for the elderly, according to the Audit Commission. It would be better to seek ways of caring for more elderly people in their own homes. At present, a great deal of money is spent on residential and nursing care for the elderly, and this means that less funding is available for community-based services which allow people to remain in their own homes.
