'I had my baby on Good Friday ... suffering of the flesh and resurrection all in one day.' (novelist Margaret Drabble tells of birth of her son in Mar 1961)(Interview)
Article Abstract:
Giving birth to a child can be like meeting someone for the first time, as the parents have no idea in advance what the child will look like, according to novelist Margaret Drabble. She was completely unprepared for motherhood when she gave birth to her first child, a son, on Good Friday 1961. There was little public discussion of childbirth at that time, and she found the hospital very authoritarian. However, she was overcome with delight at her first sight of her son.

We need men in the nursery
Article Abstract:
There is growing recognition in the UK of the importance of involving men in the care of young children. This is in response to the belief that children, many of whom are separated from their own fathers, need more contact with men. It is becoming more common for men to work in nurseries, but those who have taken up employment in nurseries are very aware of the need to ensure that they do not make themselves vulnerable in any way to accusations of sexual abuse.
