'I managed because I'm good at detaching.' (Jackie Bentley; experiences of a surrogate mother)(Interview)
Article Abstract:
Being able to carry a child for another couple is a very precious experience, according to surrogate mother Jackie Bentley. She accepted right from the beginning that the twins she was carrying would never belong to her, and was able to detach herself emotionally from them. She was careful not to allow any bond to develop with the babies once they were born, and handed them over immediately. However, she did feel very emotional afterwards, especially as she felt excluded from the happy atmosphere surrounding the babies.
