In 1991 Polly Bideset made a film about the lives of seven children riginally filmed in a 1977 television documentary about Franklin House, Aycliffe, Derbyshire, England. Despite the care given to these disturbed children, in adult life t hey fail to cope, are victimised and take up crime. All the men have been in prison. The only woman lives in mental institutions. Doing business the family way
Article Abstract:
More and more British women are now working outside the home, and this brings considerable difficulties as they try to align domestic and professional responsibilities. Women who succeed in their career often do so at the expense of their family, while this is not a problem for men, who are able to distance themselves from family life while at work. However, some large UK companies are now making real efforts to take account of the family responsibilities of their female employees.

'Mum went away a lot. We really missed her...'
Article Abstract:
Writer and broadcaster Sarah Dunant found it extremely difficult to leave her daughters Zoe and Georgia when she was spending a long time filming abroad. However, she also enjoyed spending time alone. She believes that separating from her husband has proved better for her children than trying to avoid separating. Her daughter Zoe welcomes the fact that her mother now works from home more frequently, but is aware that there can sometimes be tensions between them.
