Iain Crichton Smith
Article Abstract:
Poet Iain Crichton Smith grew up in a small village near Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. He was introduced to poetry at the Nicolson Institute, and became particularly influenced by Eliot and Auden. He taught at the High School in Oban, but from 1955 began to establish a reputation as a poet. His first novel, 'Consider the Lilies,' was published in 1968. He was particularly interested in detective fiction, but his own fiction was simple and directly written.

John Broome
Article Abstract:
Comic-strip writer John Broome began writing scripts for comic books using science-fiction themes during the 1940s. He became a contract contributor to D.C. Comics, devising Captain Comet and the Phantom Stranger. His most well-known series of his own creation was probably 'The Atomic Knights.' He began a life change in the late 1960s, moving to Paris, France. His last script was published in the Mar 1970 issue of 'The Green Lantern.'
