If Eisenstein were alive today, would he be directing Naked Gun 4?
Article Abstract:
Russian filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein, who died in 1948, is widely regarded as a key cinema theorist, and there are frequent revivals of his work. However, he is generally more admired by historians and critics than by audiences. He was a leading Soviet constructivist in the 1920s, but it has now come to light that he was also influenced by modern western trends and by figures such as Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. Ronald Bergan, who has recently published a biography of Eisenstein, argues that his influence can be seen in many modern films.

From the sublime to the ridiculous
Article Abstract:
Much of the attraction of being a writer is the chance not to have to think as an American, according to writer-actor Wallace Shawn. He preferred his play 'The Designated Mourner' to be performed in London, England, and Hamburg, Germany, rather than in the US, as he has experienced difficulties with US audiences. He feels that he has a natural instinct to escape provincial boundaries, and would like to be a citizen of the world. His acting roles have been very diverse, including appearing once a year in 'Star Trek.'

Made in Wales
Article Abstract:
The film 'Twin Town' is not intended to be a Welsh film, even though it is set in Swansea, Wales, according to Kevin Allen, who wrote the film with Paul Durden. It has an intrinsic Welshness, but is designed to have universal appeal. It was originally intended to be a docu-drama, but became a comedy because Allen specialises in comic writing. He rejects traditional image of Wales, but replaces these with other images which are also rather unoriginal. Some observers have compared it with the film 'Trainspotting.'
