Begin the Beguine again
Article Abstract:
It is very important to hear Cole Porter's songs how they were intended to be heard, according to conductor John McGlinn, who is to conduct a concert of Porter material at the Palace Theatre in London, England, on May 31, 1998. He has worked extremely hard to ensure that the orchestration will be as close as possible to the originals, many of which no longer exist. Some of the songs have never been orchestrated before. McGlinn is keen to ensure that the songs are given greater prominence than the singers.

Breach of trust
Article Abstract:
Conductor Klaus Tennstedt, who is currently celebrating his 70th birthday, had for many years had a very strong reputation, and is still in great demand from orchestras and audiences. His beat is imprecise and his gestures not appealing to look at, but he hears the music extremely vividly in his head and succeeds in grasping the attention of both players and audience. However, he now suffers from ill health, and is unlikely to make a comeback.
