Outcasts from another age
Article Abstract:
David Norris, a senior lecturer in English at Trinity College, Dublin, seeks damages from the Irish state for retaining the law making homosexuality a crime. The 1861 Offences Against the Person Act was repealed in England and Wales in 1967 to allow homosexuality in adults over 21, but not in Ireland, where the Court of Human Rights ruled in 1978 that the Irish government was acting illegally. Judges insisted on the law to compel men to marry. About half the homosexuals in Ireland are believed to be married men.

Gays, lesbians, straights - it's time to treat us all the same
Article Abstract:
Social attitudes towards homosexuality in the UK have changed significantly since the 1960s, but this is not reflected in either criminal law or civil law. There is still criminal legislation that targets gay men for punitive treatment, and legislation as a whole contains many anomalies and contradictions in relation to homosexuality. It would be much better to introduce a new sexual offences law based on the principle of equality of sexuality.
