Caution urged as Daimler turns to multimedia

Daimler-Benz's supervisory board is expressing concern about the industrial concern's plans to move into the multimedia sector. It is thought that some board members are calling for the company to ensure that its existing activities are properly managed before it diversifies further. However, it has been confirmed that the company is already holding exploratory talks with Bertelsmann, the Kirch group and Burda.

The Bank of England experienced many serious problems in 1995, according to new executive director Michael Foot. These included clashing with the Chancellor of the Exchequer over interest rates and the departure of deputy governor Rupert Pennant-Rea. He believes that there is now considerable potential for change and improvement, although much of this can be undertaken without introducing new structures.
