In the US a new 'chip' will allow parents to censor TV. Could it work here?
Article Abstract:
New legislation in the US will make it compulsory to incorporate a Violence Chip (V-chip), which can censor television programmes by reading their classification code, in all new television sets with a screen size of 13-in or more from 1998. This follows growing concern about the impact of extensive sex and violence on television on crime levels, the degeneration of society and the break-up of families. This could also be adopted in Europe, where all television programmes would be given a code which could be read by the V-chip.

This one's a real cracker
Article Abstract:
ITV is set to boost its drama programming, which some observers have criticised as being too predictable, with one-off 'events,' according to Nick Elliott, controller of drama at ITV. He has been accused of emulating the BBC in including many costume dramas, but he believes that it is in fact the BBC which has been copying ITV. ITV will continue to focus on volume, being aware that very well known drama serials will produce large audience numbers.

Why we should all pay to keep Radio 3 elite
Article Abstract:
Radio 3, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, has always attracted mixed views. Some observers feel that it is too elitist and self-indulgent and that it should not receive large amounts of funding from taxpayers. Others welcome its commitment to broadcasting a very wide range of classical music. Doubts about its future are growing as it faces more competition from other sources, including television and commercial radio.
