In two minds about the new grammars
Article Abstract:
There are very mixed views about the recent recommendation from the government's policy unit about the creation of privately financed state grammar schools. Some observers point out that there is strong demand for grammar school education, and believe that any move to expand parental choice should be viewed positively. However, others feel that demand will be determined by the availability of other educational options locally, and point out that the costs involved in setting up such schools would be very high.

Primary cause of failure?
Article Abstract:
There has recently been a backlash against progressive teaching methods in primary education in the UK, especially with growing concern about standards of numeracy and literacy. Various ways of increasing standards are now being considered.
