Informers
Article Abstract:
It is common in the UK for criminals to be prepared to become police informers, even though they are aware that the consequences of being identified by fellow criminals as an informer can be very serious. Some become informers simply to avoid a jail sentence, while others really seem to wish to assist the police. The financial rewards from informing are generally only modest, but in high profile cases considerable sums of money are made available to informers. The case of David Norris, a successful informer who was subsequently murdered, shows how dangerous informing can be.

Robot subs take film of sunken Gaul
Article Abstract:
Unmanned submarines are being used by investigators seeking to establish why the trawler Gaul, based in Hull, England, sank in 1974. The Marine Accident Investigation Board has stated that the submarines have taken pictures of the wreck of the trawler showing it lying on its hull on the seabed around 300 mt down. It is located in the Barents Sea 70 miles north of Norway's North Cape. The UK government for many years rejected pleas from the victims' families to investigate the sinking of the Gaul, stating that it would be too difficult to find.
