Clinton calls for November summit on financial crisis
Article Abstract:
The President of the United States is calling for a world economic summit to be held in November in London. There is fears that the G7 group of rich countries has not done enough to prevent world recession. The President wants the UK to back tighter regulation of world financial markets and canvass support for his plan to establish an emergency fund to bail out troubled emerging economies. However, worries about the re-introduction of capital controls in emerging markets still persist amongst financial markets. The G7 recognises that the risks to the current outlook has increased significantly.

Mandelson comes out ... in favour of the single European currency
Article Abstract:
There has been considerable media speculation about the private life of UK Trade and Industry Secretary Peter Mandelson. In fact, more attention should be given to what Mandelson is saying in his official role, as he is significantly changing the tone of the debate about the single European currency. He seems to be taking a very positive line on monetary union, even going as far as to make reference to the dangers for the UK of not participating in monetary union. It seems increasingly likely that the government as a whole will gradually move in the direction of supporting monetary union membership.
