Inquiry launched into Kiszko case
Article Abstract:
Stefan Kiszko was convicted of murdering a child. He spent 16 years in jail, although forensic evidence proving his innocence was available before his trial. Although at first he had made false confessions, Kiszko pleaded his innocence throughout the years. A police reinvestigation of the case unearthed the hidden evidence and his conviction was quashed. Mr Kiszko has received no apology from the police who claim that until this scientific evidence came to light, there was much to indicate his guilt. He will now receive generous compensation and the search for the real killer will resume.

Did the messengers shoot themselves?
Article Abstract:
The Court of Appeal found news coverage of Michelle and Lisa Taylor's trial for the murder of Alison Shaughnessy sensational and prejudicial to the case. A photograph published by five newspapers was not available to the jury; this can be a contempt of court. The case was sensational, but reporting is often biased in favour of the prosecution. Portrayal of good character is not considered good copy. Judges can ban reporting or order a retrial. Editors can be fined or jailed under the contempt law for inaccurate reporting.
