Is hers the toughest job in Fleet Street?
Article Abstract:
Sue Douglas, the new editor of the Sunday Express, faces a particularly difficult task. The newspaper was once amongst the most popular in Europe, and she must now decide how to revive its fortunes. She must retain its traditional readers, a third of whom are over 60 years old, but must also find ways of increasing its circulation from the current level of 1.3 million. The newspaper has traditionally been strongly supportive of the Conservative party, but must now adapt to a changing political climate.

Girls get violent
Article Abstract:
Women now have a strong sense of equality with men, and this seems to be prompting them to take on some of the more negative aspects of male behaviour, including violence. There has been a 12% rise in female violent crime in the UK over the last five years, and some young women are even forming American-style gangs. Among young people aged 15-17, girls are more likely to take pleasure in violence than boys.

Is it really such a sin to be ugly?
Article Abstract:
There is still a strong social stigma attached to people who are ugly, and they often find it very hard to be successful in life. The latest example has been Conservative MP George Gardiner, who has had to appeal to his constituents not to drop him on the basis of his appearance. Psychologists report that ugly people are less likely to be trusted and often have to take the blame when problems emerge.
