Island airs good news on TV for children
Article Abstract:
A study undertaken among children living on the remote Atlantic island of St Helena contradicts the widely-held view that television has a negative impact on children's behaviour. It was found that the island's children, who have only been exposed to live television since 1995, are now less likely to suffer temper tantrums or to engage in fighting than they were before television was available. They seem to have been more influenced by pro-social behaviour portrayed on television than by anti-social behaviour.

Britain in 2020: Lots of singles, fewer children, more pets, rural retirement
Article Abstract:
The number of divorced people in the UK will almost double by the early 21st century from its present level, and one person in three will be living alone, according to forecasts from the Office for National Statistics. There will be a rise of almost 500,000 over the next decade in the number of people employed in personal and protective services, with a 10% rise in the number of managers and administrators. Working hours will continue to increase, and this will prompt more people to pay for help in the home.

Wanted: justice for fathers whose bond has been broken
Article Abstract:
UK law gives unmarried fathers very little right to determine how their child is brought up if their relationship with the child's mother comes to an end. At present, mothers may make important decision such as changing the child's name without consulting the father. This has prompted Lord Chancellor Lord Irvine to consider whether parental rights should be made available to unmarried fathers whose name appears on the child's birth certificate.
