Israel's proxy army 'runs out of control.' (Israel unable to control South Lebanon Army)
Article Abstract:
The recent case of a 12-year-old girl being killed in southern Lebanon by a mortar fired by the South Lebanon Army (SLA) has caused some embarrassment for Israel, which which pays, arms and commands the SLA. Israel claims that it cannot control the actions of SLA militia units, but local people claim otherwise, believing that the SLA does nothing without orders from Israel. There has even been a case recently of an SLA soldier firing on comrades in an Israeli front-line position.

Hizbollah raises stakes in Lebanon fighting
Article Abstract:
Hizbollah guerillas and Israeli troops continue to clash violently in southern Lebanon, with both sides having broken rules which were agreed in 1994 in an effort to scale down the conflict. It had been arranged that the conflict would be limited to military targets, but now innocent civilians have been caught up in the fighting. There are few prospects for an early end to the conflict.
