It pays to adverise. Oh no it doesn't
Article Abstract:
Equity, the union for British actors, has called on its 37,000 members to boycott work on all new British advertisements. Some advertising agencies took the precaution of signing up actors before the boycott came into force, but others have been obliged to rewrite advertisements or repeat old ones. The main subject of conflict is efforts to renew the contract between actors and the advertising industry. Equity is particularly opposed to the possibility of fees paid to voice-over artists and singers being cut by two-thirds.

Don't neglect your 'soft' side
Article Abstract:
Many job-seekers in the UK have the technical skills and academic qualifications sought by employers, but often fail to realize that employers are also looking for less tangible abilities, including communication, team working and self-management. Graduates seeking employment should consider ways in which they can show that they can learn new material quickly and efficiently. They must also try to gain work experience in an office environment, and may wish to consider volunteering for charity work.

Ambitious? Stay at home
Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly widely recognized that lifestyle plays a significant role in career success. Employers are now looking for recruits who have an established partner, a happy family life and a range of leisure activities. In contrast, they are rejecting people who devote themselves totally to work, as this is seen as a failure to delegate or establish self-managed teams. Similarly, there is evidence that more and more employees are unwilling to sacrifice their private lives.
