It's blooming big business
Article Abstract:
Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury's and Tesco are now the leading retailers of fresh flowers in the UK. Multiple retailers now account for more than a quarter of all flowers sold. However, only 2% of supermarket customers buy flowers, so there is still considerable business to be obtained by the UK's 7,500 independent florists. Multiple retailers are supplied by large packing companies, which are now the largest purchasers of flowers from growers.

How far can they lure us up the aisle?
Article Abstract:
Consumers in the UK have become much less loyal to a particular supermarket, and this is causing considerable concern to leading multiples. They are responding by offering a growing range of services, such as in-store creches and coffee shops, and by launching incentives. They are prepared to invest heavily in schemes such as customer loyalty cards, especially as it allows them to obtain a great deal of information about their customers.

She boldly went. But not for long ...
Article Abstract:
Living with nomad people in Rajasthan and Gujurat, in western India, was a very stressful experience, according to Robyn Davidson. She felt that the expedition was a failure, as she never got close to the Rabari, a caste of camel-herders, with whom she lived intermittently in the period 1990-1992. She felt drawn to nomad people, but also felt a fraud because she was able to escape to the comforts of western life.
