Japan, Asia, now Russia. Who's next?
Article Abstract:
Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea and Russia are experiencing inter-related economic crises in August 1998. The declining Japanese economy is having an adverse impact on economies worldwide, particularly the emerging economies in Asia. The West European and US economies are continuing to expand, but the weaker economies are trying to increase exports to these markets which is affecting the balance of trade. Some analysts attribute the crises to underlying economic problems, although speculators are also contributing to the problems by provoking currency devaluations.

That was the year the world went global
Article Abstract:
Globalization has become a key driving force behind economic and business strategy in 1997. No national economy can now regard itself as being immune from the influence of international capital, and companies are being forced to adapt to the continuing integration of the world economy. Globalization cannot now be stopped, and policy makers must therefore turn their attention to the question of how to deal with the growing gap between rich and poor and the accompanying damage to the environment.

The signs are clear: the future is inequality
Article Abstract:
The increasing globalisation of markets and the growing influence of cyberspace are developments which are placing the future of the nation state in severe danger. Countries are already unable to prevent foreign companies establishing a presence, and mass unemployment is becoming a serious problem everywhere. It is likely that companies will become global in nature, and will no longer work for the benefit of the country where they originated.
