Article Abstract:

Composer, teacher and writer Joaquin Rodrigo almost completely lost his sight after suffering diphtheria as a child. However, he began music lessons at the age of eight, and began studying harmony and composition with Francisco Antich at the Conservatorio in Valencia, Spain, at 16. His first documented composition, of which there is no longer any trace, was made in 1922. He wrote his music in braille and then dictated it to a copyist. He enrolled at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, France, in 1927. He later entered the centre of musical life in Spain.

Lost masterpieces from the attic

Article Abstract:

Searching for lost music scores is a very exciting process, according to music-librarian Robert Tucker, who formed the Broadheath Singers and Windsor Sinfonia to perform works that had faded into obscurity. He emphasizes the importance of performing only music that is tuneful and singable, as there is only one chance to make the music memorable for the audience. He has played a key role in drawing public attention to little-known composers such as Alexander Brent Smith and Martin Shaw.
