Article Abstract:
Many fans of the work of film-makers Joel and Ethan Coen try to find hidden meanings in their films. In fact, the films, which are produced at a rate of one every two or three years, are pure entertainment, even though they contain complex references to film history and are made to an extremely high technical standard. Their films are very carefully planned and storyboarded, and they like to have an active part in many different areas of production. Each film is entrancing in itself, but there is no cumulative excellence in the Coen's work.

Article Abstract:
Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, who died recently, gained great respect for 'Rashomon' and 'The Seven Samurai.' However, few people would name him as the best Japanese director. Many observers feel that his work lacks latency and that it is too firmly situated in the public domain. There is great variety and richness in his work, but this fact is obscured by the excessive attention paid to his historical films. It is now time to look at him in a new light and to rediscover his work.

Patron saint of entertainment
Article Abstract:
Filmmaker Steven Spielberg first came to public attention with the film 'Duel,' made when he was only 25. His reputation was firmly established with 'Jaws,' and he went on to make other extremely successful films, including 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' and 'Raiders of the Lost Ark.' He has retained his ability to understand what attracts ordinary people, and has shown great versatility. His career raises many questions about the US film industry as a whole.
