Justice can be blind
Article Abstract:
UK Lord Chancellor Lord Irvine of Lairg believes that, apart from a small number of cases, blind people should be permitted to become magistrates. A few blind and visually impaired people have now been accepted as magistrates on a trial basis, and their progress will be reviewed after a year. There has been some opposition to this development, with some observers claiming that blind people are not suitable to be magistrates because they cannot observe the demeanour of witnesses.

'The baby's heart stopped.'
Article Abstract:
Kelly Carter, who had to have a selective termination of one of the twins she was carrying because it was deformed, feels that the experience brought her closer to her partner, John Sutton. However, she still finds it hard to accept that she now only has one baby. Sutton recalls that finding out that one of the babies was deformed was extremely worrying. Despite this, he feels that they were right not to tell their families about this at the time.
