Karen Demirchian
Article Abstract:
Politician Karen Demirchian was born in Yerevan, Armenia. Both his parents died when he was still very young. He studied engineering at the Yerevan Polytechnical Institute between 1949 and 1954, and subsequently joined the Yerevan Electrotechnical Factory. He joined the Communist Party in 1955, and was soon made secretary of the factory Party committee. He gained a diploma from the Higher Party School in Moscow, Russia, in 1961, and in 1966 became third secretary of the Yerevan party committee. He was made first secretary of the Armenian Communist Party in Nov 1974, and became speaker of the Armenian parliament in 1999.

Archbishop Seraphim of Athens and All Greece
Article Abstract:
Priest Vissarion Tikas was ordained deacon in 1938, and was ordained priest in 1942 after having taken a diploma at the Theological School of Athens University, Greece. He joined the resistance to the Nazi occupation during the second world war, and was then clerk and later secretary to the Holy Synod. He was consecrated Metropolitan of Arta in Sep 1949, and in 1958 was transferred to the diocese of Ioannina. He was Archbishop of Athens and All Greece between 1974 and 1998.

Zygmunt Nissenbaum
Article Abstract:
Businessman and philanthropist Zygmunt Nissenbaum was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1926. He lost almost all his relatives during the second world war, and settled in Constance, Germany, where he became successful in machine building and the property market.
