Indian turns its back on Western ways
Article Abstract:
India has moved rapidly towards being a Western consumer-driven society over recent years, but there are now signs that ordinary people are beginning to rebel against this trend. Nationalist politicians are encouraging voters to see multinational companies in a negative light, and there have been public demonstrations. The nationalists are playing on the helplessness which ordinary people feel because they cannot afford Western-style food or goods.

Crippling legacy of interminable civil war
Article Abstract:
Buried landmines frequently injure and even kill civilians in Afghanistan, where the civil war continues with no signs of being resolved. Hospitals are desperately short of resources such as medicines and blood, and this means that they are often unable to save the lives of those injured by landmines. Relatives have nothing to offer either, and have little hope that the injured person will recover.
