Le weekend break: the chain reactions
Article Abstract:
It can seem very appealing to reach a ski resort in France for a long weekend break by flying to Geneva, Switzerland, and then hiring a car. However, it is important to be aware that heavy snow can make driving hazardous between Geneva and French ski resorts. This is particularly the case if you are not accustomed to fixing snow chains. It may be preferable to travel by train from Geneva. The resorts of the Trois Vallees can be reached via Cambery and Moutiers on one of three or four trains a day from Geneva.

The one-horse town tackles tourism
Article Abstract:
The town of Chamonix, France, attracts people who are serious about skiing, rather than those who wish to make a fashion statement. Its slopes are quite challenging, and those seeking a more relaxed skiing environment may prefer other resorts. Less confident skiers may wish to consider travelling by bus to Le Tour, where there are gentle, wide-open pistes. Chamonix has not been made characterless by tourism, and has an old-fashioned atmosphere.

Listening to the call of the pistes
Article Abstract:
Skiers are returning to the French Alps as they begin to appreciate once again the region's suitability for novices and children and its well-run resorts. Most of the larger French resorts are situated a very high altitudes, so they never have problems with insufficient snow, and many resorts are built directly on the slopes. However, France will still have to work hard to compete with Italy, the US and Canada.
