Learning to love carbuncles
Article Abstract:
The Prince of Wales's Institute of Architecture's planned move to a new site will signal its determination to create closer links with real life, according to Richard Hodges, its new director. He acknowledges that Classicism has a place, but does not feel that the institution should be involved in stylistic issues of this kind. Hodges has the advantage of not being involved in the clashes which are currently characterising the architectural sector in the UK, and working abroad has given him a clear view of the limitations and strengths of architecture in the UK.

Do we need postmen?
Article Abstract:
The postal system has come to symbolise national self-esteem in the UK, and there are therefore inevitably mixed views about the possibility of the Royal Mail losing its monopoly. Many British people have a very fond image of the traditional postman, but sentiment must not be allowed to cloud decisions about the privatisation of the Royal Mail. Indeed, it is possible that people could adapt quite readily to not having a regular postman, with courier companies taking over the service instead.
