Lenders get tough with singles
Article Abstract:
UK law group Nasp (National Association of Sole Practitioners) claims that UK lenders are imposing restrictions on sole practitioners and small firms. Abbey National has published new terms and conditions for appointment to its panel of approved solicitors which many claim is prejudiced against sole practitioners. The Council of Mortgage Lenders has responded to the Law Society's consultative document on The Cost of Default. The Council supports stricter controls on sole practitioners, such as regular accounts-monitoring.

D'ya wanna be in my gang?
Article Abstract:
The UK's law firms have been developing a range of alliances since the 1980s. In some cases, networks have been set up solely for marketing and promotional work, while in other cases independent firms have formed loose confederations. Most of the law firms which have joined such networks are regional, but recently a number of City firms have joined groupings. These include McKenna and Co, which has linked with LawNet to form LawTeam.
