Real men don't get a look-in
Article Abstract:
Media coverage of men in the UK has become increasingly negative over recent years. Soap operas show male figures with unattractive characteristics, for example, while newspapers often imply that men are mean and hopeless. Furthermore, male humiliation is now widely seen in advertising. Advertisers want to move away from the traditional image of the man as breadwinner, but do not seem to be able to create a positive image in its place. Negative media coverage of men is mainly produced by men in powerful positions in journalism and advertising.

Young lives under the gun
Article Abstract:
Many British children have now become aware of the possibility of military action against Iraq. For some, the situation is frightening and confusing. For others, it is exciting, as it seems to be similar to situations portrayed in action films and cartoons. Experts advise that excitement can be a shield against being frightened. Adults should present a consistent message to children about the possibility of military action against Iraq, and should seek to contain their own anxieties.
