Let digital TV help the Church convey its message
Article Abstract:
Some observers believe that the BBC gives too little attention to minority interests. In some ways, this is inevitable because of the BBC's need to maximize audience share as a result of receiving the licence fee. This situation is set to change with the advent of digital broadcasting, which will make it possible to devote entire channels to specialist interests, such as religion, opera or ballet. The Church of England should consider setting up its own channel if it wishes its views to be represented.

The BBC is sending out the wrong signal on democracy
Article Abstract:
The BBC is showing signs of growing indifference to parliamentary democracy. It has reduced coverage of parliamentary debate, and is thus betraying its long-standing commitment to report parliamentary proceedings adequately. BBC Chmn Sir Christopher Bland feels that it is not the job of the BBC to allow the view of backbench MPs to be heard, but in taking this stance the BBC is also ensuring that government ministers cannot be heard either.
