Let's open the doors
Article Abstract:
The proportion of students from Commonwealth countries in the student population as a whole in the UK has declined over recent years. There has been a particular fall in the number and proportion of students from the poorest countries in Asia and Africa. This is because the UK's tuition fees are relatively high, because overseas students are no longer eligible for grants and because other English-speaking countries offer incentives to foreign students. The UK should address this situation as a matter of urgency, as it is running the risk of losing its cultural influence in Commonwealth countries.

A fare deal for all
Article Abstract:
Tension between New York cab drivers and the city's black and Hispanic communities has almost reached breaking point after many incidents of cab drivers refusing to take blacks and member of other ethnic groups. Many whites believe that this attitude is justified, as black males are responsible for a high percentage of street crime, but other observers believe that it is wrong to automatically assume that blacks are criminals. Black and hispanic men who are often passed up by cab drivers are now startig to report this to the Taxi and Limousine Commission.

Article Abstract:
The UK's business schools attract 37,000 overseas students, generating an income of more than 400 million pounds sterling. They also provide qualification programmes to around 10,000 students in their own countries. The contribution of business schools to the UK's export earnings is set to be boosted by moves by the Association of Business Schools and the Association of MBAs to establish a new system of accreditation for MBA programmes. These organisations are also emphasising that there is need for long-term investment in the sector.
