A child's place is not in a cell
Article Abstract:
The number of 10-13-year-olds committing crimes has fallen by 43% to 29,000 in 1991, from 51,000 in 1985. The Howard League for Penal Reform think this is partly due to the decrease in imprisonment. Young offender institutions and approved schools seem to increase crime. Sixty children in prison attempted suicide in 1991 because they were frightened. The Home Secretary Kenneth Clarke is preparing a White paper for Mar 1993 to resurrect laws enabling children as young as 12 to be imprisoned.

Certainly no place for Essex man
Article Abstract:
Graham Gooch's cricket team was defeated in India in 1993, partly because of a lack of understanding of Indian culture. India is old-fashioned. Geoffrey Boycott thought the Indian cricket team was extremely bad in South Africa, but did not allow for improvement when at home. The English team is mainly concerned with beating Australia and refuses to accept skill from other opponents. Ridiculous excuses are made when they are beaten.
