What a gentile can learn from a Jewish joke
Article Abstract:
The split between liberal and orthodox Jews in the US touches on many difficult moral and religious issues. Orthodox Jews, as represented by Harvard law professor Alan Dershovitz, believe that it is wrong to favour the majority religion, as this has the potential to create an explosive situation. In contrast, liberal Jews, as represented by David Mamet, feel that Jews can survive as a minority within a majority and show respect for the beliefs of others. They warn against the stockade mentality which has become extremely widespread in the US.

A joke, a shot, and a pool of blood
Article Abstract:
The recent shooting of British journalist John Schofield, which has been attributed to Croatian troops, even though Croatian military authorities have firmly denied this, has highlighted the dangers facing journalists reporting on the war in the former Yugoslavia. So far, between 54 and 76 journalists have died, almost as many as during the second world war. The war is extremely unpredictable, making it hard for journalists to take appropriate precautions.
