Article Abstract:
The choice of a health insurance scheme is difficult as there are so many variables, and even choice by price can be overturned by unforeseen premium increases. Once a claim has been made a company has a strong hold on the customer as transferring will probably mean any problems associated with the previous illness will not be covered. Some companies have age bands and regional bands and some do not, and these companies can be chosen according to the client's situation. Companies are beginning to involve clients in paying bills and then claiming the money back, believing this reduces cavalier attitudes towards costs.

Life in Luton is no longer a joke
Article Abstract:
A survey by Newcastle University has revealed that 72% of the people buying property in Luton South, UK between 1988 and 1991 have negative equity, that is an outstanding mortgage on their homes more than the value of their home. The figure for Luton North was 54%, making this town the worst in the country. The recession and unemployment have taken a terrible toll, with car giant Vauxhall reducing its workforce from 21,000 to 10,700 since 1984. The unemployed gather in the huge concrete shopping centre. There are many muggings, rapes and car thefts.

Battered home buyers flock for a fix
Article Abstract:
Since the increase in mortgage interest rates to 15.4%, property owners are keen on fixed-rate mortgages which offer protection from rising rates. Borrowers who do not move house face valuation, legal and arrangement fees. Fixed-rate mortgages vary from one- or two- year fixes to 25-year loans. Lloyds Bank offers its first 25-year fixed-rate mortgage with a 9.75% interest rate in 1993. However, it must be backed by a Black Horse Life endowment or pension.
