We don't want to go to Chelsea
Article Abstract:
The North-east group of the National Council for the Conservation of Plants and Gardens holds an annual sale in Northumberland, England. The group supplies members with plant pots and labels and reimburses them for composts. The sale offers easy plants for new gardeners and many unusual plants. An advice table helps salespeople, who are mainly just enthusiastic gardeners, answering questions. The sale provides funds for the parent charity and visitors to the English Heritage hall, castle and gardens at Belsay Hall near Newcastle upon Tyne.

The danger of obsesssive love affairs
Article Abstract:
Creative gardening is selective and innovative, although many British gardeners like to collect rare plants which do not enhance the garden. Gardens open to the public offer a 'national collection' of a certain genus to attract visitors. Collections of particular plants help gardeners learn about them in detail, but addiction to them can cause ignorance of their faults. Gardeners should be keeping the peace, deciding what to plant to create the desired picture.

On the road to the Chelsea Flower Show
Article Abstract:
The annual Chelsea Flower Show, which attracts several hundred thousand visitors over a four day period, features 20 different gardens. For the people who design the gardens, preparations can take many months. It can be hard to raise the necessary sponsorship, and complicated arrangements must often be made. The garden plots are only small, but the gardens will be the subject of intense scrutiny, so must be perfect in every way.
