The last days of a schoolboy's war
Article Abstract:
Many children and teenagers heard the news that the Second World War was coming to an end in Europe with a sense of regret, knowing that they would miss the excitement which the war had brought. They had not realised how serious the war was, and had enjoyed outings with the Officer Training Corps, for example. Their only concern was that fathers and older brothers who had been called up would not return home, but would be sent to fight in the continuing war in the Far East.
